Vanessa Aldrich
Lyric Soprano - Writer - Creative Director
“[Vanessa Aldrich]’s talent will haunt you…her voice, her mind, her presence, her beauty should be unleashed on every kind of audience.
-Janine Rubenstein, Editor-at-Large, PEOPLE Magazine
Hailed for her edgy, full-bodied, and dramatic voice, with haunting and distinctive qualities, soprano Vanessa Aldrich commands a deep sense of connection to both music and drama, allowing her to communicate with power and searing vulnerability, all packaged in an elegant and sensual stage presence.
Transitioning into the dramatic repertoire, hers is a voice opening into works by Beethoven, Donizetti, Verdi, Puccini, and Prokofiev with great comfort, while still maintaining the supple flexibility to perform works by composers such as Handel and Mozart.
Opera credits include Beethoven’s Vesta’s Feurer (Volivia), Mozart’s Idomeneo (Ilia), Le Nozze di Figaro (Contessa, Marcelina), Die Zauberflöte (2nd Lady), Floyd’s Wuthering Heights (Catherine), Schreker’s Der Schatzgräber (Els), Lully’s rarely performed Atys & Cadmus et Hermione, Thea Musgrave’s Harriet: The Story of Harriet Tubman (Cato), and the title in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas.
Opera Chorus credits include performances of Così fan tutte and Porgy and Bess with UCB Symphony Orchestra, Aroldo, Zelmira, La Boheme with West Edge Opera, and Harriet: The Story of Harriet Tubman with Utopia Opera.
Vanessa has also appeared as a soloist in early concert repertoire by Bach, Handel, Purcell, Monteverdi, and Charpentier, alongside such groups as Philharmonia Baroque, UC Berkeley Symphony, Bay Area Classical Harmonies, and the Berkeley Handel Opera Project.
A committed singing actress, she has completed training at the Berkeley Repertory Theater School and at The Terry Schreiber School in NYC. She holds a double bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley in Music and Political Science, and later pursued a graduate degree in Opera at The Longy Conservatory of Music, in Cambridge, MA.
She resides in New York City, and studies with Michael Paul.
